Get Up, Dress Up, Show Up: March for Life

Spring into March by renewing your prayers and support for the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty’s efforts to contend for the freedom to proclaim the faith.

That’s what we did [recently] at the life march. . . . Hundreds of us showed up at Parkview Field for a rally . . . Solid prayers, a good talk. Loved the singing of God Bless America. But toes were cold, and the acoustics were rough. The crowd grew antsy. How could they not?

As we made our way out, the sun came out too; our feet were moving, our blood was flowing, and our lips were opened to praise the Lord of Life. We held LCMS signs that had a veritable greatest hits of hymns, though the lyrics to “A Mighty Fortress” were off, a not so great translation. Some of us would have liked a few deeper cuts, but the singing was strong, and it came from those who were wearing the neon green hats of LCMS life. And it was sweet to the ears and warm to the heart.

And, on the plus side, we got our steps in. The walk was not exactly a marathon, but it was something. And we ended up at the Federal Building, where the Reverend Michael Salemink offered up a word of exhortation, followed by strong encouragement and prayer from President Bruss of Concordia Theological Seminary. And then we sang “A Mighty Fortress” again, this time with the words that we know and love, and we did it by heart. Ain’t that grand? And wasn't it wonderful to see so many there, to see the banners, the faithful pastors and their flocks? Loved seeing the Concordia High students and their banner! And so many seminary students and profs! Fantastic. They make me glad, make me forget the cold.

A good day to walk and pray. A good day for life, and a good day for all the LCMS Lutherans who made their voices heard in such beautiful song.
