The Oppressors and the Oppressed

This June, take pride in supporting our efforts to contend for the freedom to proclaim the Christian faith.

That's how Marxism works. In the Communist Manifesto, it's the freeman and slave, the patrician and the plebeian, lord and serf, guild-master and journeyman. Translated into the present, it's critical theory where it becomes a matter accumulating points. Score one for being a woman, one for being a person of color, one for being LGB, and perhaps two for being T. Count yourself as an enemy of the one percent, and that's at least a half-point. Such an odd thing, yet you gain a bit of oppressed status by including yourself among the 99 percent. Say you are an LGBTQ ally, another half point, and so on. Colleges have long operated this way, and many young people, young women especially, come home as trained Marxists.

Christianity is a negative point, and subtract at least two points for being an evangelical Christian. Whiteness is bad, of course. Catholic social teaching on immigration gives cover if you still have a problem with abortion, as does following the likes of Christianity Today, which promotes NeverTrumpism as a means of social advancement, in order to receive the plaudits of our cultured despisers.

In social interchange, the oppressor/oppressive dichotomy plays itself out in terms of the offenders and the offended. The first one to claim offense is thought to win. But, of course, the term “offensive” is defined by cultured despisers. What is offensive? Hard to know, but you don't want to cross that line, or you pay a social price. That's why the term "snowflake" never really fit, for in every snowflake there is a little razor blade, meant to cut the tongue of those who might take notice of the fact that the emperor has no clothes.

The tide, I think, is turning. Certain political leaders become lightning rods, and to social distance from them is advantageous. One thing to note is who is doing the judging and why you should care. Many are confused and led by those who set the rules. In such a world, Biden is thought to be a good Catholic, and a word is not said against him though he heavily promotes the killing of the unborn, and the mutilation of the youth. To notice is socially offensive. The faithful wonder just who will speak, who is not afraid to bear the burden of being labeled a, let's say it together, a racist, bigoted homophobe. Heck, I remember being called them, in a string of pejoratives, for simply saying that women cannot be ordained into the church. God forbid you read Romans 1:18-32.

But who is really offended? Some, to be sure. But it's a game run by the secular elite who run things, those who have made the long march through the institutions. In such a world, politeness is considered a virtue that trumps truth, and silence is golden, or at least allows a business to prosper without being labeled a hater. Monty Python saw it coming a long time ago. Dennis cries out, "I'm oppressed, I'm oppressed. Come and see the violence inherent in the system."

What to do? Keep speaking. The system is set up like a field of landmines. You may not wish to repeat the lie, to say that two plus two equals five. But so also must we be willing to speak the lie. Want to know why so many people have voted the way that they have? At its core, it's a desire for freedom, and that freedom results in speech. So it is, England maintains decorum, but outlaws praying outside an abortion clinic. Germany maintains order, but sets up bureaus to monitor what they deem to be hate speech on the Internet. In a world where parents can lose their children for refusing to allow their children to receive gender affirming treatment (how Orwellian is that?), a world in which parents are thought to be hateful for keeping away drag queens from their children, where girls are called bigots for trying to keep guys out of their locker rooms and sports, well, you've got a problem. And you see how much power there is in being offended and how much temptation there is not to be numbered among the offenders.

So, yeah, if we are called "fundamentalists," we might just want to wear that label as a badge of honor. Being polite may be a goal, but it can't be the goal. Bless the comedian who crosses such lines, bless the mom who comes into a school board and raises holy hell. Push for open borders, if you must, and we can all debate immigration policy, along with environmental concerns, but the church that follows the secular world and then does not raise a voice for the unborn, does not push against the transgender madness is a church that has lost its nerve, populated by Christians who have lost their salt.

Show me the Christian who actually speaks out against the prevailing secular culture, and I am heartened. Show me the man—Christian or not—that will not play along, and I will be impressed. It is precisely the truth that is being opposed that must be spoken. And in our day and age, it's the twin idols of the LGBTQ and abortion. But that's a challenge, as there is safety in being oppressed, and there is great advantage in being offended. It's a table set for us by Marx and furthered by Gramsci who laid the groundwork for the march through the institutions, whether they be government schools, the entertainment industry, corporate America, or church bodies that have fallen, or I should say taken over, one by one.

Be Informed
Ever heard people claim abortions are safer than childbirth? It’s a myth. In actuality, “Studies . . . show that a woman is at least 3 times as likely to die from any cause following abortion than after childbirth.”

 Be Equipped
Dr. Michael New of the Charlotte Lozier Institute reflects on the one-year anniversary of enacting Florida’s Heartbeat Law.

 Be Encouraged
“As your life goes on, you will continue to see the effects of sin in the world. Your own bodies will fail with time. The world will seem to be a darker place. Loved ones will pass away. But do not be ignorant about those who have fallen asleep, the Apostle Paul encourages you. Instead, know with certainty that ‘the end for you is only the end of the hardship. Life awaits you in Christ!” –Daily Devotion, Lutheran Hour Ministries
