SOME QUESTIONS NEED A RISEN SAVIOR’S ANSWER!

WORD FROM THE CENTER:
MONDAY, APRIL 13,  2026
Welcome to “Word from The Center” MONDAY, a devotional word from the Center of our faith, Jesus Christ, with reflections on His Word. I’m Gregory Seltz. Today’s verse is John 20:19-31, where the Bible says,

“JESUS SAID TO HIM(THOMAS), “HAVE YOU BELIEVED BECAUSE YOU HAVE SEEN ME? BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN AND YET HAVE BELIEVED.”

SOME QUESTIONS NEED A RISEN SAVIOR’S ANSWER!

This is the year that we can see it happening! This is the year that our team is “going all the way.” That’s the mantra about this time for many fans around the country because its “opening day.” That’s right, usually about now, those of us love baseball are gearing up for the big day. It is that moment when a fan’s expectations and the team’s ability are one. Opening day! And, most of all, our common expectations are at a feverish pitch. Well, that’s if everything is going as planned. That’s if we have the right players and everyone is healthy. That’s if there’s not a worldwide pandemic, or global warming/cooling, or an economic collapse threatening the very health and economic well-being of Americans and other citizens of other countries all around the world. Play ball? “Root, root, root for the home team?” Maybe this is the year when the silly things are all that we need worry about.

Usually, this time of year we are talking about fun “cliff hangers,” questions about silly things like baseball games, NBA playoffs, and even fun things like whether “May showers will really bring April flowers.” A few years ago, there was a hysteria about a virus and whether the world can survive the response. This year there’s corruption in city governments, violence in our cities, and wars around the globe….Oh, throw in the threat of AI into the mix if you really want to be scared to death. This is one of those moments when you begin to realize that, if and when real tragedies are set upon us, our technologies and drugs can’t always save us, and many times our governments and leaders can’t or even won’t protect their people first. At times like that, what then?

Vital cliff-hanger questions need answers. When Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday, the greatest cliff-hanger in the world occurred. Was that the end for Him, for His disciples, for us? Would sin overwhelm our Savior? Would eternal life be reduced to wishful thinking? Would the ensuing daily fears of His disciples increase, fears that the church leaders of the time, and the Roman politicians of the day might target them next? Thomas wanted to see the risen Jesus for his answer. The doubts of Thomas are much like ours. There are moments in our lives where all the preparation, all the effort, all the expense comes down to this, and we don’t know what’s going to happen. And, there are even scarier times when that same moment occurs amidst our lack of preparation or the absence of our due diligence.

When those vital cliff-hanger questions arise, the Bible teaches us that, more than our technologies or polities, FAITH is the vital answer especially then. And this faith isn’t in ourselves, in our abilities, in our Team, in our wealth or stature…No, it’s our FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. That’s the kind of Faith that “is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1 ESV)” the certainty of the eternal things that matter.

In the midst of all challenges that we didn’t see coming in this world, the Savior from the cross and the empty tomb is one that not only draws our attention but commands our trust because He cares for us now and forever. Silly cliff-hangers? We can handle those. But, when it comes to cliff-hangers about life itself—viruses, tragedies, cultural unrest, or personal struggles like surgeries, disease, or losing loved ones—the key is to be bringing one’s doubts, challenges, and fears to God who can always turn those odds around and bring lasting victory and celebration. That’s an empty tomb, risen Savior answer to the overwhelming challenges of life, believe it!

PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for overcoming the greatest enemies to our life with you, sin, death, and the devil himself. Thank you for answering the cliff-hanger of the cross with the reality of your resurrection and the certainty of our eternal life with you because of your life, death, and resurrection for us. Strengthen our faith in you today and always. AMEN
