The Vanishing Black Family — A Call for a Return to Marriage, Fatherhood, and Self-Reliance

This week on The Liberty Action Alert, join Dr. Gregory Seltz and his guest, Delano Squires, Director of the Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Human Flourishing at The Heritage Foundation, as they talk about the institution that no policy can replace: the family.

Squires argues that the married, two-parent family is the most essential institution for human flourishing — and that it has been steadily dismantled. He traces how slavery first strained Black family bonds, and how the welfare state and the radical social movements that followed went further still, rewarding the very breakdown they claimed to relieve. He names what he calls the "Sinister Six," the groups he says have prioritized political power over biblical family values, including paternalistic government bureaucrats and some religious leaders. His answer is not another program but a cultural revival — a return to marriage, to fatherhood, and to self-reliance within the community. Strong family formation, he insists, is itself a radical act of independence, and the long-term success of the next generation depends on it.

Listen in for the political, the cultural, the moral, and the faith perspective on these vital issues and their impact on our culture and our mission, as we continue to grow in the wisdom needed to be 2 Kingdom citizens for the country we love. Join us!
